Installing a garden pond has become very popular over the last decade or so. A garden pond can add elegance to your garden and enhance your property overall. There are two types of garden pond you can build; one is a pond full of plants only, and the other housing fish too. To build your own pond you need a pond liner. Pond liners differ depending on whether you are going to keep fish or just plants. Generally, there are three different types of pond liner on the market.
Firstly, there is the rubber EPDM pond liner. These are very popular as they are extremely reasonable to buy. This is the most flexible of liner you can purchase, as you are able to bend the rubber into almost any shape you desire. Being rubber the liner is resistant to UV rays, which makes it very durable and it a safe, non-toxic material in which to keep fish.
An alternative is a Polyethylene liner which is also quite cheap to buy and also popular. This particular liner can also be shaped and is lightweight. The disadvantage with this type of liner is that the material isn’t build to last. They tear easily and are not impervious to the sun’s rays. Repairing Polyethylene is not easy either; specialist equipment is required for any damage.
The third type is a rigid pond liner and is generally made out of plastic or fiberglass. The shape cannot be changed so you must buy the particular shape you desire and then install it as it is. These liners are however, very simple to use, just make sure that you have dug your hole big enough to accommodate your chosen liner and place it in the dug earth. Fiberglass is extremely long lasting and is safe to use with both plants and fish. The only disadvantage is that this particular kind of liner is more expensive than the other two types.
