Winter can seem like the longest season of the year. The fact that the days are shorter, just contributes to making the dreaded season last longer. It can be even worse if the ground hog sees his shadow. Before you take a shot gun after the rodent, you can consider led grow lights to help with winter woes. These are mostly considered something to help you grow plants in the cold weather. They can sometimes be used to help people who suffer from SADS or seasonal affective disorder. Anybody, who has a reason to really miss the sunlight, can get some comfort from these bulbs.

Many of these will be somewhat small and only useful for keeping a plant or two alive. They often have many different colors of light, that are supposed to help nourish plants. A larger one is the Sunshine Systems with 45 LED Grow Light. It uses just twenty-eight Watts, but gives over two hundred and fifty Watt HPS. This will allow you to grow an indoor garden that is five square feet. It comes with its own hanging kit. This may be a little pricey over the ones that do less. Most of these lights could enable you to keep miniature fruit trees growing all year long. If you like to grow your own herbs, you can get kits with a light for indoor growing.

A picture of winter paradise would be a hot tub in a warm room with a large led grow light keeping miniature topical fruit trees alive and producing. This could replace the need for medication to help with the cold weather blues. Even if you cannot afford the hot tub in this fantasy, you can probably take a warm bath and enjoy the artificial sunshine. Not all of these are effective against SADS, but they can still make a mild suffer feel better, and allow a gardener to keep delicate plants alive through the roughest season. Perhaps the winter can be a little more comfortable, so it is not always such a wasted season in your life.

If you are an indoor gardener and you would like to reduce the expenses of your hobby or profession, then you need to explore LED grow lights. LED grow lights operate at efficiencies of 90% or higher.  Indoor gardeners who switch from HID systems often find their expenses are reduced, but between 45 and 70%.  There are three reasons for this.

The first is heat. Conventional grow lights produce a lot of heat, so much so that in many cases a separate cooling system must be installed to protect the plants. The other problem with all this heat is that it is an efficient. Energy is wasted in the production of heat. LED grow lights produce very little heat.  All of their energy goes into production of light.

The second reason is light. Conventional grow lights produce a full spectrum of light. LED grow lights, on the other hand produce light from the two parts of the full spectrum the plants actually use; blue and red. It is wasteful to produce a full spectrum of light if most of the light will not even be used.

Associated expenses and accessories is another reason for LED grow lights to be cheaper. When you purchase LED grow lights everything you need is right there in the box. Conventional grow lights require replacement ballasts, those cooling systems that I previously mentioned, and relatively frequent bulb replacement. LED grow lights have a life expectancy in the 50,000 to 100,000 hour range. No other type of light source can compete.  This can be up to 10 times longer than some of the conventional grow lights. What this means is that while LED grow lights cost more to purchase in the first place, in the long run they will be much less expensive.

For the indoor gardener, buying LED grow lights is a smart way to save a lot of money.
