It’s so exciting to plant those seedlings at the end of winter. And it’s so rewarding to see a garden come into full bloom as spring and summer approach. So, what are some things that you can do to make your garden reach it’s full potential?
Start by matching the garden to your personality. When you hang out in your garden, do you feel like it makes you relax, or does it make you want to constantly work on it to make it improve? Even though we all want our gardens to improve, there should be a level of satisfaction that you always get from looking at your garden. If you don’t have that feeling, then what is the point of gardening in the first place?
For example, many of us feel more at home in a garden that is not extremely manicured. It’s analogous to ‘letting your hair down’, so to speak. If you like your garden to have a very natural and less manicured look, you might consider getting vines that can let their own spirits shine. Looking at your garden, and finding that it makes you feel more of who you are lets you know that you are doing something right. On the other hand, if you like your garden to be extremely neat and organized, do just that. It will make you feel more structured, and either way, your mission is accomplished.
Also, you need to have a well-lit garden. If it’s gorgeous during the day, but completely hidden by a blanket of darkness at night, you may consider getting outdoor lighting that will light up your fountain or your beautiful hedges. It can also add an element of safety, so that people are less likely to fall or hurt themselves.
If you have already invested in garden lights, and you feel like your garden matches your lifestyle, then add some vines to make your garden look more lush. A really good plant that grows well in moderate sunlight is jasmine or bougainvillea.
No matter what you decide to do to make your garden reach its full potential, just do whatever fits your style best. There is no right or wrong answer, as long as you consider your landscape and harmony of your garden. So, have fun on your merry decorating!
